We’re incredibly proud to announce that Prefabulous has won the HIA Modular & Prefabricated Housing Award for Piste Luxury Chalet, The Grande, located at Lake Crackenback Resort in the NSW Snowy Mountains.
Designed and built by our team in Wagga Wagga, this stunning four bedroom luxury chalet is a fantastic example of how modular construction can deliver exceptional architectural design, quality and innovation.
A Luxury Alpine Retreat
Set amongst the beautiful Snowy Mountains landscape, The Grande was designed to offer a premium holiday experience, comfortably accommodating eight guests across four king sized bedrooms, each with its own private ensuite.
The design combines contemporary alpine architecture with warm, sophisticated interiors, creating a beautiful retreat that feels both luxurious and welcoming.
Some of the standout features include:
- Soaring cathedral ceilings achieved through specially engineered welded steel portal frames.
- North facing living spaces with clerestory glazing and Velux skylights to maximise natural light.
- European oak engineered timber flooring, wool carpet in bedrooms and a cohesive palette of brushed brass fixtures.
- Polytec cabinetry and Stone Ambassador benchtops throughout the kitchen and bathrooms.
- Four beautifully appointed ensuites, each featuring underfloor heating.
- Twin gas fireplaces for warmth and comfort during the alpine winters.
- Monument Colorbond cladding, Knotwood timber look screening and composite decking for a striking, low maintenance exterior.
Every detail was carefully considered to create a home that looks beautiful, performs in the alpine climate and provides an exceptional guest experience.

Built in Wagga Wagga, Delivered to the Mountains
Behind the beautiful design was some seriously clever engineering and planning.
Building in the Snowy Mountains comes with unique challenges, and The Grande needed to meet strict requirements for snow loading, high winds and bushfire protection.
The entire home was constructed as four separate modules in our Wagga Wagga factory, allowing our team to carefully manage quality and workmanship throughout the build.
Once complete, the modules travelled approximately 300 kilometres to Lake Crackenback Resort, involving five trucks, a police escort and carefully coordinated crane installation on the sloping alpine site.
By completing the majority of construction off site, we minimised construction waste, traffic and disruption within the busy resort, while delivering the home ahead of peak season.
It’s a great example of the flexibility and efficiency that modular construction can offer, even on challenging sites.
A Proud Moment for Prefabulous
Winning this HIA award is a wonderful recognition of the skill, dedication and hard work of our entire Prefabulous team, from initial design and engineering through to factory construction and on site installation.
We’re also incredibly grateful to our clients for trusting us to bring their vision to life.
The Grande demonstrates that modular construction doesn’t mean compromising on design, quality or architectural ambition.
And we’re especially proud that this award winning luxury home was designed and built right here in Wagga Wagga.
